About the network

What is ASEMUS?

ASEMUS — the Asia-Europe Museum Network — is a network of museums holding Asian collections in both Asia and Europe. It was created to help member institutions share collections, curatorial expertise and educational programmes across the two regions, and to make Asian material culture more widely accessible.

How many museums belong to the network?

The last archived membership list recorded 41+ profiled institutions within a wider directory of 177 member organisations spanning 42 countries and regions.

What is the Virtual Collection of Asian Masterpieces?

The Virtual Collection of Asian Masterpieces (VCM) was the network's shared online catalogue, where member museums published selected objects from their Asian collections with images and curatorial descriptions. It ran on a separate subdomain that is no longer online.

Is the network still active?

The original asemus.museum site went offline around 2020 and the network's public activities moved on. This site preserves the archived material — museum profiles, news, events and the members directory — so the record and the links pointing to it remain accessible.
