Alan Chong — Museum Director, Asian Civilisations Museum, Singapore

Alan Chong directed the Asian Civilisations Museum and the Peranakan Museum in Singapore until August 2016 — two institutions built around the connections between Asian cultures, and between Asia and the wider world. He held the post of chief curatorial director at the National Heritage Board at the same time, and from September 2014 served as Vice-Chair of the ASEMUS Executive Committee. His PhD in art history is from the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University.

Before Singapore he was a curator at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, where he organised Bellini and the East, Journeys East: Isabella Stewart Gardner and Asia, and Raphael, Cellini, and a Renaissance Banker. He co-authored the museum's catalogue of Italian furniture.

His research centres on early modern patronage, nineteenth-century collecting practices, and artistic exchange between cultures.
