European Museum of the Year & Council of Europe Prize 2017: Call Open

Launched in 1977 under the Council of Europe, the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) and Council of Europe Museum Prize recognise excellence and innovation in European museums, having historically helped spotlight small, innovative museums and connect institutions across the continent via the European Museum Forum (EMF).

The 2017 call (the 40th edition) is open to museums that are new or substantially renovated/redeveloped, excluding those open more than three years at application time. Related categories: the EMYA itself (audience engagement, presentation, education, social responsibility); the Council of Europe Museum Prize (preserving/promoting European heritage across member states); the Kenneth Hudson Award (unusual, daring achievements challenging assumptions about museums' role, chosen directly by the EMF board); and the Silletto Prize (community/volunteer engagement in museum projects). A 2017 Special Commendation for Sustainability in Museums is sponsored by Meyvaert Glass Engineering. Call closed 10 June 2016; details at europeanmuseumforum.info.
