Gyeomjae Jeong seon Memorial Museum, Korea

Gyeomjae Jeong Seon (1676-1759), a major late-Joseon painter, pioneered Korean "true-view" (jingyeong) landscape painting, breaking from the Chinese-inspired Southern School tradition by depicting real Korean scenery. He created many masterpieces while serving as prefect of Yangcheon.

The museum, opened April 2009 near the historic Yangcheon hyeon site in present-day Gayang-dong, Gangseo-gu, commemorates the painter and preserves jingyeong culture from the late Joseon "golden age." Alongside the Heo Jun Museum, Yangcheon Hyanggyo and Yangcheon Goseongji, it anchors local history education and tourism in Gangseo-gu, and aims to be a center for Jeong Seon studies.
