New OECD Publications on Museums, Culture and Local Development

Following an OECD conference on culture and local development in Venice (December 2017/18, OECD's first major event on the topic, run in partnership with Fondazione di Venezia), two publications were released:

The "OECD-ICOM Guide for Cities and Museums on Culture and Local Development," developed with ICOM, offers frameworks for governments, museums and foundations to measure culture's social/economic impact and share examples of effective culture-economy linkages, plus case studies from Venice, Trento, Lyon and Montreal.

The "OECD Report on Culture and Local Development: Background Document" examines cultural tourism and creative industries as levers for local development amid the decline of traditional industries, and the evolving role of governments in cultural infrastructure and accessibility.
