National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Central Asia's youngest and largest museum, established under the Cultural Heritage State Programme on behalf of President Nursultan Nazarbayev via Government Decree No. 675 (2 July 2013); Darkhan Myngbay was appointed its first director.

Located on Astana's Independence Square alongside the Qazaq Eli monument, the Independence Palace, the Palace of Peace and Harmony, the Hazret Sultan mosque and the National University of Arts. The 74,000 m² building has seven blocks up to nine storeys, with 14 exhibition rooms totalling over 14,000 m²: Hall of Astana, Hall of Independent Kazakhstan, Hall of Gold, Hall of Ancient and Medieval History, the Hall of History, the Ethnography Hall, and Halls of Modern Art.

Facilities include a Research Institute for national heritage studies, a children's museum and art centre, showrooms, restoration workshops, laboratories, storage, a scientific library, conference hall and souvenir stalls. Exhibition technology includes curved screens, a media floor, holograms, LED displays, touch kiosks and trilingual multimedia guides, supporting survey, thematic, philosophical and interactive/gaming tours.
