National Folk Museum of Korea
Seoul's leading institution on traditional Korean life, drawing over two million visitors annually. Founded in 1945, it focuses on Korean folklore research and the acquisition, preservation and exhibition of folk-life artifacts, through permanent and special exhibitions, symposia and public education.
As the only national museum devoted to traditional daily life, its collection reflects the routines and occupations of pre-modern Koreans — wooden kimchi containers from Gangwon Province folk research, bridal skirts and jackets, Joseon-era grave ornaments, farming implements, and real-estate records — displayed across three interior halls and one open-air space, with five special exhibitions yearly and Korea galleries maintained at partner museums abroad.
Collection size: 99,971 artifacts (as of June 2011).
