The Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum, Mongolia

Founded in 1966, renamed in 1995 after G. Zanabazar (1635-1724), whose works — including statues of Sita Tara, the Five Dhyani Buddhas, and the Bodhi Stupa — anchor the collection.

The museum has 12 exhibition galleries covering art from ancient civilizations to the early 20th century. It opened with over 300 exhibits; modern art became a separate Arts Gallery division in 1989. It now holds about 13,000 objects, including ancient petroglyphs, deer stones, relics from Mongolian states and empires, Mongolian Buddhist art, traditional painting, folk arts and crafts, sculpture, carving and embroidery up to the early 20th century.
