Museum Hopping on the Move

ASEMUS reported back to the museum world its achievements of the previous four years and its plans for the future during the 20th General Conference and 21st General Assembly of ICOM with the support of ICOM-ASPAC (Asia-Pacific).

This ASEMUS presentation attracted ICOM members from Asia, Europe and the Middle East. Manus Brinkman, ICOM Secretary General and John S. Zvereff, ICOM Secretary General Designate were both present to support this event.

ASEMUS Chairperson, Dr. Steven Englesman (Director, National Museum of Leiden, the Netherlands) provided an overview on ASEMUS and its relationship with ASEF. This presentation was further supported by inputs on ASEF and ASEMUS from Chulamanee Chartsuwan, then ASEF Cultural Exchange Director. Dr Karl Magnusson (National Museums of World Culture, Sweden), on the other hand, discussed the chronology of events of the network.

To summarise the activities of ASEMUS and to introduce the eight pilot project, an 11-minute video on the Museum Hopping event was presented. The project coordinators for the Travelling Exhibition, Dr. Brian Durrans (British Museum, United Kingdom) and Museum Education, Dr. Michael Ryan (Chester Beatty Library, Ireland), also explained their projects and how they are developing with the support of ASEF.
