Ilona Niinikangas


Ilona Niinikangas is the curator for education at the Helinä Rautavaara Museum in Espoo, Finland, a member of ASEMUS. This ethnographic museum is actively involved in projects related to global education, cultural diversity and well-being.

In this context, Ilona leads the museum’s global education programmes, community projects, public relations and communication. Her work involves working closely with a wide range of partners, including local authorities, NGOs and national ministries. The design of events is audience-oriented, with each activity targeted to raise awareness on global issues. The Helinä Rautavaara Museum organises over 200 events per year.

Ilona graduated from the University of Helsinki in 1998 and worked previously as an information officer at the Service Centre for Development Studies. Through her education, work and travel, she has developed a special interest in Asian cultures.

Ilona Niinikangas was given a grant in the 2014 edition of ASEMUS’ Educational Exchange and Outreach Programme.
