Exhibition: “Myanmar – The Golden Land” | Germany

Myanmar - The Golden Land 1 Myanmar - The Golden Land 2

The exhibition “Myanmar – The Golden Land” is presented at the Linden-Museum in Stuttgart, Germany, an ASEMUS member, between 18 October 2014 and 17 May 2015.

The exhibition aims to introduce the art and culture of Myanmar to the European public and to promote a better understanding and appreciation of Myanmar culture, history and art – through and through shaped by Buddhist religiosity as they are.

While Myanmar, with an area of  678.500 km² and a population of approximately 55 million people, belongs to the largest countries in Southeast Asia, its culture and history are almost entirely unknown in Europe. Due to the recent political changes, the country has attracted considerable public interest and has been featured extensively in the international media.

The exhibition “Myanmar – The Golden Land” is subdivided in six major thematic sections, grouped around the relationship between religion, art, culture and lifestyles in Myanmar.

In the context of the exhibition, the Linden Museum has also launched a blog entitledMyanmehr”, which presents stories on the art and culture of Myanmar.

A video describing the exhibition’s objectives, items and preparation can be seen here:

It should be noted that this is one of two major exhibitions on Myanmar currently on show in Germany, alongside ‘Myanmar: Pagodas, Longyis and Nat Spirits’, which can be seen at the Five Continents Museum in Munich until May 2015.
