2nd International Conference on Southeast Asian Archaeology | Thailand

2nd International Conference on Southeast Asian Archaeology

Organised by the Regional Centre for Archaeology and Fine Arts of the Southeast Asian Ministers Organization (SEAMEO-SPAFA), the 2nd International Southeast Asian Archaeology Conference will be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from 30 May to 2 June 2016. Following the success of the first conference in 2013, organisers hope to advance Southeast Asian archaeology by facilitating a venue for researchers in the region to present their work and to make connections with colleagues and partners.

The conference will comprise of plenary and parallel sessions running for three days, with an additional day for site visits. The plenary sessions will deal with general themes, while smaller parallel sessions will encompass a large number of topics, including ceramics, bioarchaeology, underwater archaeology and rock art. An extensive list of panels can be viewed on the conference’s website.

The 2nd International Southeast Asian Archaeology Conference takes into account that Southeast Asian archaeology is an emerging region of interest in the world stage, although the sharing of information and research has been limited due to factors such as language and lack of resources. In this context, the event aims to be the flagship conference for Southeast Asian archaeology, one that is located in the region and dedicated solely to Southeast Asian research, with a focus on helping local scholars share their research.

A call for papers to participate in the conference is open until the end of January. Papers presented at the conference may later be published as part of the proceedings, following a peer-review process.

Registration to attend the 2nd International Southeast Asian Archaeology Conference is open until 31 March.
