About Us

Set up in 2000, the Asia-Europe Museum Network or (ASEMUS in short) is a cross-cultural network of museums from the ASEM countries.

Our objectives are:

  • To promote mutual understanding between the peoples of Asia and Europe through collaborative museum-based cultural activity
  • To stimulate and facilitate the sharing and use of museum collections

ASEMUS is led by the ASEMUS Executive Committee and supported by the ASEMUS Secretariat. The Chairman of ASEF Board of Governors is the Patron of ASEMUS.

We aim for ASEMUS to be a lean and transparent network administratively. We encourage all ASEMUS members to explore collaborative projects with each other.

Executive Committee

The ASEMUS Executive Committee meets annually and is presided by a Chairperson and a Vice-Chairperson. The Chair and Vice-Chairpersons positions are alternated between an Asian and European members and are elected into office for a duration of three years.

The ASEMUS Executive Committee comprises of representatives from Asia and Europe. A representative from ASEF and the Executive Committee Secretary also sits in the Executive Committee. The Secretary is also in office for the duration of three years.

The Executive Committee is responsible for:

  • the establishment of an appropriate management structure for the organisation
  • the general direction and oversight of ASEMUS
  • the development of policies and strategies
  • the preparation of a strategic plan and approval of ASEMUS’ activities

The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) is an informal process of dialogue and co-operation with the objective of strengthening relationship between Asia and Europe. ASEM now brings together 46 member states (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei Darussalam, Bulgaria, Cambodia, China, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Indonesia, India, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Korea, Laos, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mongolia, Myanmar, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom, Vietnam) plus the European Commission and the ASEAN Secretariat.
